Post of Love and Happiness

10 Nov

Hello my darling readers!

This is Lilipop. I have been so super stressed and not very happy the last few weeks so I thought its time for a time out and a list of happy things to look at. Sometimes things get on top of you, you feel overwhelmed, everything is stressful and so I wanted to make a list of happy things that make me feel better.

1. Have a look on www.8tracks.com (its a bit like Spotify but without ads). I have found the best playlists on there by searching “misandry”, its totes brill. Here is my number one amazing song that I discovered there recently.

2. My feminist squish blanket!

3. Here is a quote from the NUS Women’s Officer, Kelly Temple (she is so cool) which puts into words my feelings about male feminists.

“Men who want to be feminists do not need to be given a space in feminism. They need to take the space they have in society & make it feminist.”

4. Talking to Jelly, she is really funny and a great best friend. We have a great game which is basically who can keep complimenting each other of the longest (you should try it).

5. Thinking up teen politics texts (it just really makes me laugh)

But like seriously babes, why should the value of my life be measured by the amount of money I earn, its like totes cray cray.

6. My friend Sophie has a youtube channel in which she makes the BEST teen fem friendly videos

7. Making things! It could be a feminist squish blanket, a nosewarmer, a mouse called Alice, a hat or a uterus with a bow tie!

8. Lots and lots of chocolate (obviously)

Creativity Week: Elly and Milly

16 Mar

Hello! This is Lilipop and today we are joined by the fantastic dancers, Elly and Milly. I didn’t give them a lot of time but they came up with this BRILLIANT tap dace for us.

Our names are Elly (14 years old) and Milly (15 years old). We have both been dancing for many years and attend the same performing arts school. We both really enjoy our dancing and learning new skills. We especially enjoy participating in the many dance shows we have been part of at London Theatres such as Saddlers Wells and The Royal Albert Hall. Here’s a video of us doing one of our tap dances!

It would be great if you gals could comment on these posts, your opinions and maybe some suggestion or submitions (for another creativity week or for another themed week altogether!). If you want to get in contact with us or any of our lovely creative guests then email Jellypop at jelly.pop@live.co.uk or for more contact information go to the Contact Us page.

Creativity Week: Kat

14 Mar

I think today’s guest is Kat. Kat makes short films and we are very grateful that she has given us “30 Second To Impact” to show you today. As with most of our guests this week, I know nothing about films but this is really cool and I hope you think so as well.

Hey, I’m Kat, I’m 14 years old. I’ve always had a passion for film, and I’ve discovered it to be a great way to express myself, as that is a task which I’ve always found hard, even though all my films aren’t real, they all link to one aspect of me. I hope you enjoy 🙂

Creativity Week: Micky

12 Mar

Today our guest is Micky! Micky (A.K.A LeXachima on YouTube) makes some amazing music videos which she publishes on YouTube. She has very kindly agreed to share them with us so check her out and subscribe to her channel if you have a YouTube account!

Hey, my name is Micky (Michaela) and I am 15 years old! I love metal and rock music and spend most of my time playing my guitar, videogames or making videos. I have been making videos for a long time but only recently just started putting them online. Most of the videos I create will feature my brother and sister or friends and family of mine. They usually all have a deeper message and hidden meanings because I like to express my innermost thoughts through these videos :3 Also I love Amy Lee and not Mia.

Music that makes me go GRRRR

1 Feb

I haven’t yet shared with you my GRRRL POWER playlist! This is a playlist that I listen to when I am feeling depressed or “whats the point”-y. After I listen to it I CAN DO ANYTHING! It was originally named the FEMINIST PLAYLIST but not all of it is feminist music however all of it makes you feel like you can punch the patriarchy in the face!

Here it is:

1) The first one is “Mr Big Stuff” by one hit wonder Jean Knight.

2) The next is “Hot Topic” by Le Tigre (WOOOO)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0idmTWxFs1A

3) This is “NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS” by Salt’n’Pepper (They speak the truth)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Q96-e042bk

4) Next is “Respect Yourself” by The Staple Singers

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-1pYKdqD1ls

5) After that, “Rebel Girl” by Bikini Kill (The music is GUT despite the members faults)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZxxhxjgnC0

6) Of course no playlist would be complete without NINA SIMONE! Today in the form of “I wish I knew how it would feel to be free”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W9_Tzginj7g
7) “Your Revolution” by Sarah Jones (Not techniquely a song but amazing never the less)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xRgIGMwZd2o

8) Ending with the classic “You don’t own me” by Lesley Gore (possiblly the first feminist pop song)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNb-8gLcXLs

I hope you have enjoyed the music!

Lilipop x

LOOK! We can make noises and stuff.

26 Dec

HELLO! Lilipop here. As you may have noticed, Jelly and I rather like music. So far we have done quite a few posts about music we like listening to but we haven’t posted anything about the music we play.

This is what music-y things I do: I play the viola and bassoon in various school orchestras and at my saturday music school (CYM) I also sing in 2 or 3 choirs. I do other music things outside of school like South London Youth Orchestra and LSO On Track. All of this is mostly classical with the occasional bit of jazz and various other stuff. It sounds really weird but classical music is my most favouritist thing to play but listening to it makes me fall asleep.

Jelly speaking: I don’t do much music outside of school, although in school I am a happy member of Chamber Choir (my guilty pleasure is classical choral music. I know, I’m a sad sod). I went to Animate Orchestra before going to The Band, with Lilipop, which was actually the best thing ever until I tried The Band. My flute is seriously great and I will talk about the virtues of my chosen instrument at length to anyone who will listen.

One thing we both do is The Band. The Band is basically a group of young people making/writing their own music. If you want to know more about The Band, here is the website . The last project Jelly and I did with The Band was a piece of music based on Ecclesiastical Actions by Zimmerman. We wrote it ourselves and performed it in The Clore Ballroom in The Royal Festival Hall. I got hold of the soundtrack and some photos then edited it (really REALLY) badly to make a video for you to listen to/watch. We would LURVE any feedback or questions you may have for us, contact details on the Contact Us page. ENJOY!
